Gay Hart Studio
GAY HART has been has been practicing her craft for over thirty years. An award-winning artist, she grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and attended The Boston Museum of Fine Arts where her skill in art and design was honed by masters. Further study at the DeCordova Museum in nearby Lincoln exposed her to the most avant-garde in classes, exhibits and regional artists.
In 1965 Ms. Hart began her own visual merchandising business in the upscale town of Cambridge. Her first client was The Upper Story, an exclusive store for home décor. Within three months she had twenty accounts. In 1973 Ms. Hart was appointed district manager for Cherry & Webb’s seven Massachusetts department stores. She was the first woman to hold this position.
In 1977 Ms. Hart’s collages and paintings were shown at the Regina Lee Penthouse Gallery at the Harbor Towers in Boston. The exhibit was featured in The Boston Globe and attended by top designers and architects.
Ms. Hart moved to California in 1978 where she continued her career as an artist and visual merchandiser while consulting and working with photographers and advertisers in set design and photo styling. Among her clients were Apple Computer, Tuzo Umo and Lava Enterprises. Her commissioning clients include the Los Angeles Mayflower Hotel (20 floral mixed media) and the May Center in La Jolla, for which she created a striking 12-by-40 foot indoor graphic installation.
Ms. Hart’s newest body of work is her Series 12 “Paramours” consisting of a dozen mixed-media originals on canvas in which colors, textures and objects d’art combine to illuminate a female personality in her own environment. Each piece is created with one-of-a-kind ornaments and can, therefore, never be replicated.
Ms. Hart is expanding her studio offerings with a line of mixed-media freestanding screens. Clients are welcome to send her their special fabrics, photos, jewelry or other personal treasures to be made in to a striking original wall hanging or room divider. Gay Hart Studio will soon be creating designs for home décor and giftware.
